Professors
Dr. Ra and Dr. Whang are dedicated professors with extensive experiences in information-driven control research working in the School of Mechanical and Control Engineering at Handong Global University, South Korea. Their special expertise lies in guidance, control, navigation, target tracking/recognition and heterogeneous sensor fusion associated with precision guided missiles, intelligent surveillance/reconnaissance UAVs, and smart cars. Before joining the university as faculty members, they have worked with the Agency of Defense Development (ADD) where they have carried out many R&D projects associated with missile guidance and control.
In particular, during their term of office at ADD, they developed the homing guidance law, target tracking filter, and modeling & simulation softwares of Korean medium-range surface-to-air missile and supersonic anti-ship cruise missile as well. Based on these work experiences in ADD, they are endeavoring to devise technical solutions to the problems of multi-source/multi-sensor data fusion and AI based target tracking. These technologies are going to play an important role in providing the theoretical foundation for the Korean ballistic missile defense system.
Recently, they also have tried to broaden their research area to future mobility by spinning off their professional knowledge. In particular, they have actively collaborated with Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) which is one of the largest global car makers for developing the next generation perception systems for L3/L4 driverless car.
